  1. Bravo to the cast and creative team of Assassins now playing at Barrie’s new Downtown Community Theatre! I went to see the production on opening night last Friday. Adam Brazier did a fantastic job directing this show. Great use of the space and extremely creative. Each member of the cast was perfect for their role and there was not a weak moment in the show. The play did not do well on Broadway but I think that is because the subject is just too sensitive for most Americans. It is thought provoking and really causes one to examine what role we may play in the psychi of our fellow citizens. A very sad topic but Weidman and Sondheim have somehow created a humourous musical about the topic! I would recommend seeing this show but remember to use the facilities after that glass of wine and before the show starts, it’s 1 hour and 45 minutes long with no intermission.

  2. I was at the Opening Night and then again at the Saturday matinee and I can’t say enough about this production. The acting is riveting, the songs are toe-tapping and the stories – oh the stories! I have to admit, I never considered WHY Booth shot Lincoln, just that he did. And to consider that our impression of Lincoln (and Kennedy) are shaped by the fact that they were assassinated is again another view I never considered. These men are heroes and is it because they stand in the light of a villain? It has prompted me to delve deeper into history to find out. I hope to see this show once more before its run is over. Arkady, I don’t know how you ‘see’ what you see when choosing the plays for the year but this one was a bull’s eye. Sorry, couldn’t resist.
